Tulsa Oilers News Release

ALLEN, TX - The Tulsa Oilers battled the Allen Americans to a 3-3 draw through 40 minutes of action on Saturday night but surrendered three goals in a span of just over two minutes in the third period and suffered a 6-4 loss in front of 4,554 at the Allen Event Center. Tulsa has dropped back-to-back games in regulation for the first time this season and fell to 3-3-1 overall.

The Americans seized the early momentum thanks to a shorthanded first period goal from Spencer Asuchak and quickly added to their lead with a 4-on-4 tally from Aaron Gens. The Oilers spent much of the first period on the power play and were able to cash in on a 5-on-3 advantage for their first goal of the evening. In a combination that has been consistent throughout the early season, Jon Booras fed Adam Pleskach who directed a shot past Aaron Dell for his league-leading ninth goal of the year. The Americans were called for seven penalties in the opening frame but managed to hold a 2-1 lead going into the intermission.

Seven minutes into the second, the Oilers successfully eliminated an Allen 5-on-3 power play and got the game-tying goal from Dave Pszenyczny. As Booras floated a pass from the right wing, Pszenyczny reached out his stick to tip the puck through Dell for a shorthanded goal and his second goal of the season. After Chad Costello restored the Americans' advantage, the Oilers continued to trail until the final seconds of the period when Scott Macaulay snapped a shot past Dell with just 1.1 showing on the clock. The ECHL's top-scoring defenseman netted his third goal of the season and leveled the score at 3-3.

At 2:27 of the final frame, Trevor Ludwig zipped a wrist shot from just inside the blue line that found its way past Tulsa goalie Brady Hjelle and put Allen in front for good. Gary Steffes deposited a Tulsa turnover into the back of the net at 3:19 and the Oilers wheels officially came off at 4:30 when Jamie Schaafsma re-directed the puck past Hjelle to give the Americans an insurmountable 6-3 edge. Oilers defenseman Jake Obermeyer finished off a 2-on-1 at 15:29 for his third goal of the season but the visitors were unable to manufacture any further offense.

In his first start as an Oiler, Hjelle turned aside 37 shots while Dell earned his second win with 26 stops. The Oilers went 1-for-6 on the power play and killed off all three Allen power play opportunities. The Oilers are 1-1 against the Americans this season and will not have to wait long for payback. The two clubs conclude their weekend series at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday at the Allen Event Center.
