Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
WHEELING, West Virginia - The Wheeling Nailers took advantage of having four different goal scorers dent the net in a 4-2 triumph over the Cincinnati Cyclones Friday night at WesBanco Arena. Andy Franck stopped 38 shots in picking up his 17th win of the season.
Wheeling opened the scoring just 51 seconds into the game, when Jon Foster collected his seventh goal of the season. The Nailers extended the lead to 2-0, when Jon Smyth netted his second goal of the year at 8:27. Cincinnati outshot Wheeling in the first period, 18-9.
The Cyclones battled back with a pair of power play goals early in the second period, as Sam Ftorek rifled home his ninth goal of the season at 46 seconds. Jason Deitsch and Matt Macdonald added the assists. Cincinnati knotted the score at 2-2, when Cory Urquhart buried his 21st goal of the campaign at 6:13. Less than 90 seconds later, at 7:28, Chris Brooks scored his first goal of the year-to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Nailers through 40 minutes. Again, Cincinnati outshot Wheeling, 13-9 in the middle frame.
An empty net goal in the final minute by Paul Bissonnette ended the scoring and made the final, 4-2.
The Cyclones are now 21-15-1-2, holding a two point lead over Reading for the North Division lead. Wheeling is 17-19-1-1 and is in seventh place in the North Division. The Cyclones are at Dayton on Saturday (Jan. 27 at 7pm).
