
'Blades sign Lukin to contract

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Gerry Fleming announced today that forward Jarret Lukin has been signed to a contract, and that defenseman Ryan Van Buskirk has been activated from the 3-day injured reserve list and defenseman Ryan Brindley placed on the 3-day IR. As per team policy the injury was not disclosed.
Lukin (LOU-kin), who turned 23 on January 24, joins the Everblades after starting the season with the University of Calgary, where he tallied 20 points (5g, 15a) in 16 games. The Fort McMurray, Alberta native was in his second season with the U. of Calgary Dinos. In 2005-06, Lukin's first with the Dinos, he scored 39 points (9g, 30a) in 39 games while earning CIS All-Rookie honors.
Prior to playing at the collegiate level, the 5-foot-11, 185 pound center spent five seasons (2000-2004) at the junior level in the Western Hockey League. Lukin played in 312 total games in the WHL, scoring 86 goals and adding 126 assists while skating with Kamloops and Medicine Hat. Lukin's best season came in 2002-03 when he finished second on Kamloops with 74 points (32g, 42a) in 65 games.
In addition to the signing, the Everblades activated Van Buskirk from the IR and placed Brindley on the 3-day IR. Van Buskirk had missed the last two games and returns to the lineup with 10 points (1g, 9a) in 14 games. Brindley heads to the IR with four points (1g, 3a) in 16 games.
