Shootout Loss Against Gulls

The Gulls and Condors met on Wednesday night at Centennial Garden, and for the third straight game in the season series, a shootout was needed to decide a winner. R.J. Enga made it 1-0 with a backhander late in the first period to give San Diego the advantage after 20 minutes. Bakersfield turned it on in the second and third periods, in an attempt to tie the game, pounding the Gulls net with 34 shots over the final 40 minutes. Their work paid off, as Shawn Byram tallied the tying goal with less than five minutes left in regulation. The game went into a shootout, where four of five Gulls beat netminder Kevin St. Pierre, and just two of four Condors scored, giving San Diego the extra point, and putting the two teams in a tie for second place.

Condors success against Fresno continues

The Condors received great goaltending from Kevin St. Pierre and timely scoring to take a 5-2 win in Fresno on Sunday night. Defenseman Wes Swinson staked the road team to a 1-0 lead with a cannon from the point on the power play in the first period. Just 15 seconds later, it was 2-0, courtesy of former Falcon winger Christian Skoryna. Despite allowing two goals in the first six minutes of the middle frame to surrender the lead, St. Pierre stood on his head, as the Condors withstood a barrage of 11 straight shots by Fresno. Center Paul Willett put Bakersfield back in front with his 19th goal of the season just past the midway point. Center Shawn Byram scored in the third to give the team some cushion, and Nate Anderson added a late, empty-net tally to take the win. It was the ninth win in 11 games for Bakersfield against their Highway 99 rivals.
