Hot Goaltender Spoils Week Off

February 17, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

The Fresno Falcons returned to action last night after a full week off but ran squarely into Bakersfield Condors goaltender Kevin St. Pierre, who quickly let the Falcons know they were no longer on vacation in a 5-2 Bakersfield win.

Fresno peppered the league's leader in save percentage with 36 shots but only Colin Embley and Ryan Duthie managed to beat St. Pierre. The Falcons overcame a 2-0 first period deficit before the Condors scored three unanswered goals, including an empty-netter in the game's final minute, as they fell to Bakersfield for the ninth time in 11 meetings.

The loss dropped Fresno's record to 26-17-5, and they remain in fourth place with 57 points, six points behind the third-place Condors.

PRESIDENTS' DAY MATINEE

The Falcons have no time to mull over last night's loss as they return to the ice this afternoon at 1 p.m. against the San Diego Gulls. The game marks the first of three in a row against the Gulls, who are also in town on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. Fresno then travels down to San Diego on Saturday for the back half of a home-and-home.

CATCH ‘EM WHILE YOU CAN

Following Friday's tilt against the Gulls, the Falcons will embark on an 11-game road trip and will not return to home ice until March 14 when the Condors come back to town. The five-city trip is the longest in franchise history. The first game of the team's trek is Saturday night in San Diego followed by a 4 p.m. start at Long Beach on Sunday against the Ice Dogs.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Practice is tentatively scheduled for tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Gateway Ice Center. The team will definitely be on the ice on Wednesday and Thursday at Gateway at 10 a.m. before returning to Selland Arena for a pre-game morning skate at 10 a.m. on Friday.
