February 17, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC â Pee Dee Pride Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Davis Payne today announced that defenseman Mike Torney has been sent back to the Pride from the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League. Torney will be in uniform tomorrow night when the Pride travel to North Charleston to take on the South Carolina Stingrays.
The second-year pro out of the University of Vermont appeared in 29 games with the Pride this season, totaling eight goals and four assists for 12 points. Four of his eight goals are on the power play. Torney also has a plus-12 rating and 87 penalty minutes. He was recalled by the Barons on December 26, and has missed the Pride's last 24 games. In 14 games with Cleveland, Torney was held scoreless and posted 23 penalty minutes.
Last year in his rookie campaign, Torney tallied nine goals and added 13 assists for 22 points to go along with 84 penalty minutes. His return to the Pride could not have come at a better time. Eric Naud will be out of action for several weeks with a lacerated kidney, and Ryan Knox remains recalled to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL.
After tomorrow's game at South Carolina, the Pride remain on the road, playing at Richmond on Friday and Roanoke on Saturday. Pee Dee returns home on Sunday afternoon, hosting the Greenville Grrrowl at 2:30. It's another Sunday Kids' Day at the Lion's Den, with all 400-level tickets for kids 12 and under just $2. There will be face painting, balloon animals and other activities for kids throughout the game. Tickets for that game, and all remaining Pride home games, are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
