Dayton Bombers News Release

BOMBERS TO PLAY REMATCH WITH LEXINGTON; ALSO FACE RIVERMEN AND CYCLONES IN ROAD TILTS: Despite three-point efforts from forwards Jason Deskins (2-1) and Torrey DiRoberto (1-2), the Dayton Bombers fell 6-4 to the Lexington Men O'War on Sunday in the team's only game played over the weekend. The Bombers will play 13 of their final 19 games on the road, including the next five, all against Northwest Division foes. A rematch and final regular season meeting with the Men O' War is to be played on Tuesday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m. (7:15 p.m. broadcast time on www.daytonbombers.com in association with www.sportsjuice.com).

Below is a review of the Bombers' home game played on Sunday:

2/16/03- Lexington 6 @ BOMBERS 4

A 27-second span late in the second period, featuring two short-handed goals, was the difference in the Men O'War's 6-4 win over the Dayton Bombers at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Trailing 3-2 and down a man, defenseman Joe Vandermeer fired a screen shot that beat Bombers goalie Shane Bendera at 18:23 to help Lexington tie the score. Then at 18:50 on the same Bombers' power play, Vandermeer fed Clair for a breakaway goal that put the Men O'War ahead for good. Clair and Marc-Andre Thinel added insurance markers for Lexington in the third period. The Lexington win spoiled three-point performances by linemates Jason Deskins (2-1) and Torrey DiRoberto (1-2). Deskins scored twice (once on the power play) in a 7:10 span of the second period that helped the Bombers erase a 2-1 deficit and give them a 3-2 edge. Deskins and Tom Nemeth set up DiRoberto in picture-perfect fashion for another man-advantage tally at 12:33 of the third. Fred Slukynsky scored the other Bombers' goal, a short-handed conversion which was his second and the team's 11th of the season.

The Bombers will play their final regular season head-to-head matchup with the Men O'War to kick off a five-game road sojourn and also attempt to avenge a 6-4 home loss to Lexington on Sunday. The Bombers will be searching for their first win of the season at Rupp Arena (0-2-1). Though the Bombers play three road games during the week, all are commuter trips (travel to the game, play the game, then return to Dayton).

The Bombers are 1-1-2 in games played against the Rivermen this season and are 0-1-1 in the tilts at Carver Arena in Peoria. Though the Bombers will have finished their regular season head-to-head series with division rival Lexington by Tuesday's end, they still have five games to play against the Peoria Rivermen, including the last three regular season games (March 28 @ the Nutter Center; March 29 and 30 @ Carver Arena).

Sunday, February 23, 2003 @ Cincinnati Cyclones (3:05 p.m./2:50 p.m. broadcast time on www.daytonbombers.com)

The Bombers will play their intrastate foes, the Cyclones, in a game that was originally scheduled for Saturday, February 22, but was pushed up a day due to a concert at U.S. Bank Arena. The Bombers' lone win against the Cyclones this season came in Cincinnati on January 11. Defenseman Jason Crain scored with less than a minute left and the Bombers goalie pulled to tie the game at three, then Ryan Vince got around Mike Casselman to beat Marc Kielkucki to give the Bombers a 4-3 overtime win.
