Augusta Lynx News Release


The Augusta Lynx played three games in four days the past week, coming out with a record of 1-2-0. For the season the Lynx stand in seventh place in the Southeast Division, five behind the fifth and final playoff spot, held by Greenville. The Lynx have compiled 40 points and a record of 18-30-4 in fifty-two games played.

The Lynx fell 6-2 Wednesday, February 12 to the Pee Dee Pride. Lynx goals were scored by Josh St. Louis, his 15th of the year, and Andrew Williamson, his 18th as a Lynx. Tom Draper picked up the loss in 45 minutes of play, making 18 saves while Colin Zulianello made 11 saves in fourteen minutes of play.

The Jackson Bandits defeated the Lynx Friday, February 14 by a score of 4-2. Patrick Yetman scored his first goal since returning from the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack. Ryan Lauzon broke out of a goal scoring drought picking up the Lynx lone power play goal in nine tries.

Saturday, February 15 the Lynx defeated the Cincinnati Cyclones by a score of 6-1. Lauzon tallied the team's first hat trick of the year with a power play goal, a short-handed goal, and the game winning goal. Curtis Cruickshank made his return in front of the net, stopping 22 of 23 shots for a Save Percentage of 0.957.

The Lynx made the trip to Greenville Sunday, February 16 only to have the game postponed due to inclement weather. The tentative rescheduled date is March 11th in Greenville.

The Lynx will continue the onslaught of eight games in eleven days hosting the first place Columbia Inferno Thursday, February 20. The Lynx are currently trailing 3-4 in the series. Augusta has won both meetings at home as well as the last meeting in Columbia. St. Louis has led the charge for the Lynx with 8 points (6g-2a) against the Inferno. The Inferno's penalty killing unit is the best in the league and has held the Lynx to just two power play goals in twenty-seven chances while the Inferno has been 8-33 on the power play. The Inferno has been 7-3-0 in their last ten outings.

Saturday, February 22 the Greenville Grrrowl will travel to Augusta in an important battle for the final playoff spot. The Grrrowl leads the season series 3-1. The 2002 Kelly Cup Champions are currently on a two game losing streak and have compiled a road record of 10-15-2. In the previous meetings, the Lynx have held the Grrrowl to just 3 power play goals on 25 opportunities. Jay Leach and Yetman have 3 points each, leading the scoring for the Lynx against the Grrrowl.

The Northeast Division's second place Greensboro Generals will make the trip to Augusta Sunday, February 23 for the third meeting of the season, the second coming Tuesday, February 18th in Greensboro. In the first meeting here in Augusta, the Lynx defeated the Generals 3-2. The Generals' penalty killing unit ranks 2nd in the league at 84.39 percent.

Player of the Week: Lauzon had 4 points (4g-0a) in three games. He netted two power play goals, a shortie, and a game winner, as well as a Hat Trick in Saturday's win.

Goaltender of the Week: Cruickshank was successful in his return to the net, allowing only one goal on 23 shots. His season record now stands at 4-2-0. He also picked up his 2nd assist of the year.

Upcoming Events

Monday, February 17: Join the Lynx at Cadillac's Fine Food and Spirits at 7 pm for the "Behind the Bench Coach's Show" with Head Coach David Wilkie and Kyle Schultz.

Tuesday, February 18: The Lynx make the first of two trips to Greensboro, NC to take on the Generals at Greensboro Coliseum Complex. Game time is set for 7 pm.

Thursday, February 20: The Lynx host the Columbia Inferno at 7:05 pm at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

Friday, February 21: The "Hat Trick for Life" School Assembly Program will be held at Rollins Elementary at 1:30 pm. Assistant Coach and Director of Community Relations, John Whitwell, along with a Lynx player will lead the assembly.

Saturday, February 22: The Lynx will host the Greenville Grrrowl at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. Game time is 7:35 pm. The first 1500 fans will receive a CINTAS Thunderstix.

Sunday, February 23: The Greensboro Generals travel to the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. The puck drops at 4:05 pm. Join the Lynx at Rio Bomba on the river at Eighth Street for a post-game party.
