Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - With two months still remaining in the 2004-05 ECHL season, the Bakersfield Condors have made their first move in solidifying their team for 2005-06. Head Coach Marty Raymond, Assistant Coach Paul Willett and Director of Player Personnel Bob Bartlett have all signed contract extensions through the end of the 2005-06 season. The announcement was made by Bakersfield Sports Entertainment President Matthew Riley at a press conference today.

Raymond, 40, was named the third head coach in Condors history when he took over on an interim basis for Paul Kelly, who took relief from his duties nearly a year ago to the day, on February 26, 2004. Willett, 35, was named the Condors assistant coach in a joint announcement for both coaches on April 27th after finishing a stellar 14-year playing career. Bartlett was introduced in August but was a key component in the Condors recruitment all throughout the off-season and played a large part in landing two high-profile prospects from the Los Angeles Kings in Bakersfield.

The Condors have only yesterday dropped from the top two spots in the West Division for the first time all season, as they raced out of the gates with a 13-1-2 record. For the majority of the season, Bakersfield has owned the top spot in the division and has been at or near the top of the overall ECHL standings. Their 29-15-8 record gives the Condors the fourth-best point total in the 28-team ECHL (66 points) and their .635 winning percentage is sixth. Bakersfield has already surpassed it's totals from last year in wins, points, home wins and road wins. With 12 more wins over the remaining 20 games, the Condors would equal the best win total in team history.

"Everyone at BSE is proud of our coaching staff for the job they've done thus far," said Riley. "While there's still unfinished business for this season, it's clear that Marty, Paul and Bob have the work ethic, knowledge and desire to make the Condors one of the most respected on-ice organizations in all of minor league hockey. With their future solidified, they can focus on building a winner here in Bakersfield for this season and beyond."

"I'm happy to be coming back next year so we can continue what we started on the road for a championship," said Raymond. "This year, our goal was to establish a good hockey team that was fun to watch and make the playoffs. We're not done yet, but we have a contender. I think the three of us form a good trio and we want to be back here together."

"Marty coming here on a one-year deal showed a lot of self confidence and confidence in his staff as well," said Condors Majority Owner Jonathan Fleisig. "Me giving him a second year before the playoffs even begin this season is my way of showing him and the team the confidence I have in him as a coach."

The Condors head to Long Beach on Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. contest. All Condors games home and away can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com and now available for viewing through B2 Networks on the official Condors website.
