Lynx Answer The Bell Twice To Grab Four Points
February 21, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
Broken down by the numbers this weekend, things looked like this for the Augusta Lynx: two games, two goals against, nine goals for, four power play goals, 270 total minutes in penalties â and four regulation points. With those four points, Augusta now finds itself eight out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the ECHL's American Conference.
Friday night the Lynx got goals from Dan Sullivan, Louis Goulet, and Eric Johansson en route to a 3-0 blanking of the Greenville Grrrowl. Jason Saal made 26 saves for his third shutout of the season, while Sullivan's goal held up for the game winner despite coming at the 1:35 mark of the first period. Johansson and Goulet each finished with a goal and an assist, and Sean Connolly added two helpers in the wining effort.
Saturday night, the Lynx took it to the Pee Dee Pride by a final count of 6-2. Jamie Johnson led the way with two goals and three assists, while Colt King was right behind with two goals and two assists. Matt Dzieduszycki and Eric Johansson added singles, while Saal made another 30 saves to earn the win and give Augusta very important points in the standings on the weekend. The Lynx now sit just eight points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the ECHL's American Conference.

Saturday, February 26th vs. Gwinnett
A home-and-home series between Augusta's in-state rivals kicks off on the road Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Five meetings remain between the two clubs, with ten key points hanging in the balance. Every win is crucial to the Lynx's playoff chances, especially considering the conference playoff format in which every game becomes a so-called "four point" game. The Lynx are 3-1-1 against Gwinnett this season, and the two sides have not met since January 8th in Gwinnett. Both teams are 5-3-2 in their last ten games, with Gwinnett having the advantage of being 14-5-5 at home this season. Of those five losses and five shootout points at home, Augusta is responsible for one of each, posting a 1-0-1 record against the Gladiators on the road this year.
Chris Durno's two goals and 10 points leads all scorers in the season series, while Jamie Johnson spearheads the Augusta attack with a goal and seven points.
Sunday, February 27th vs. Greenville
The Lynx took down the Grrrowl in the two teams' first Augusta meeting last week thanks to 26 saves from Jason Saal and a balanced scoring attack. The win marked Augusta's first win against the Grrrowl this year, and with both remaining games coming at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center, the Lynx hope to keep that momentum intact Sunday. Eric Johansson has two goals and four points in two games against the Grrrowl this year to lead the Lynx.
