Bakersfield Condors News Release
Last Week
Thursday, Wheeling 4 vs. CONDORS 2; attn: 4,509
The Condors scored first on Thursday night, but the visiting Nailers reeled off three straight to take a commanding lead early in the third. Ryan Gillis' goal at 8:03 of the third period pulled Bakersfield back to within one, but less than two minutes later Wheeling put it out of reach with Evgeny Lazarev's second tally of the game. Randy Petruk stopped 26 shots in what was to be his last appearance in a Condors uniform.
Saturday, SAN DIEGO 7 vs. Condors 3
San Diego scored three times in each of the first and third periods and the Gulls cruised to a 7-3 victory over the Condors on Saturday night at the Sports Arena. Yutaka Fukufuji took the loss with 26 saves. Paul Rosebush, Brad Mehalko and Mike Hofstrand all scored for the Condors in the loss. Bakersfield has dropped two in a row against the Gulls.
Sunday, Long Beach 3 vs. CONDORS 1; attn: 4,122
Brad Mehalko gave the Condors a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but Long Beach scored the next three to skate away with a 3-1 win. Bakersfield played all three games this week without three of their top four scorers, and only put one of their 45 shots past Ice Dogs starter Olivier Michaud in the loss.
Where we stand
The Condors failure to win in three games this week, coupled with the victory by Alaska over last place Dayton on Sunday, means Bakersfield has dropped to third place in the standings. Bakersfield's record stands at 29-15-8 with 66 points on the season.
What's up this week
The Condors travel to Long Beach to exact revenge on the Ice Dogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. They return home to host the San Diego Gulls on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. That night, SpongeBob Squarepants will be in the house, appearing courtesy of Bright House Networks, Real Rock 93.1 and Subway.
All Condors games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, online at the official Condors website at www.bakersfieldcondors.com and now available for viewing through B2 Networks on the official Condors website.
