Trio Sparks Idaho Victory
February 21, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC â The Victoria Salmon Kings and the Idaho Steelheads finished the weekend double header on Saturday. The Steelheads scored a couple in the second which was enough to beat the Salmon Kings 4-2.
Ryan Watson continued to score on, notching his second in two, at 7:10 of the first from Ryan Esselmont and Jason Hegberg. Steelheads forward Frantisek Lukes didn't stop with his barrage against Salmon Kings goalie Dan Blackburn, he tied the game 1-1 shorthanded, less than three minutes later.
Idaho Head Coach John Olver must have said something right in the intermission because forty nine seconds into the middle stanza Brett Draney cashed in his twelfth of the season on the powerplay from Jonathan Zion and Bobby Russell.
The trio then connected once more, this time Russell from Zion and Draney scoring the powerplay game winner to put Idaho on top 3-1.
Salmon Kings winger Seth Leonard scored with thirteen seconds left in the period, from Alexei Gluhkov and Hegberg, but were unable to get any closer. Lukes scored his second of the game and fourth of the series to cap the total at 4-2 Steelheads.
Steelheads goalie Colin Zulianello made 11 saves on night meanwhile Dan Blackburn made 28. The Salmon Kings were one for seven on the powerplay and the Steelheads converted twice in five opportunities.
The Salmon Kings return home to face the San Diego Gulls on Tuesday February 22, 2005 at Bear Mountain Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m. PST. Tickets are available at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 250-220-7777.
