Los Angeles FC News Release
The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) return home to BMO Stadium for the second, decisive leg of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Final on Sunday, June 4 with a trophy on the line. LAFC trails Club León 2-1 in the aggregate goal series after dropping the first game on Wednesday night in the opening leg at Estadio León in Mexico. Kickoff in Los Angeles is set for 6:00 PM PT and will be broadcast live on FS1 / TUDN and 980 AM.
On Wednesday in Mexico, William Tesillo gave León the early lead off a header in the eight minute, and León doubled their score on a Ángel Mena penalty kick in first half stoppage time. Concacaf Champions League's leading scorer Dénis Bouanga delivered a goal in the 95th minute with his seventh goal of the competition to set up a dramatic final game at BMO Stadium.
LAFC aims to repeat history as they return home for the second and final leg of the Concacaf Champions League. In 2020 LAFC lost the first leg of the CCL Round of 16 series in León 2-0, but went on to earn a 3-2 aggregate victory with an incredible comeback in Los Angeles.
NEWS & NOTES
LAFC is the only MLS club to appear twice in the Concacaf Champions League Final.
With his goal on Wednesday night, Bouanga now has a goal or an assist in all seven of LAFC's 2023 Champions League games.
Carlos Vela leads LAFC all-time in Champions League scoring with eight career goals, scoring five times in 2020 and three in 2023.
LAFC previously faced León in the Round of 16 of the 2020 Concacaf Champions League, earning a 3-0 victory at home in the second leg of the series, overcoming a two-goal deficit to advance with a 3-2 aggregate result.
