Drake Callender Called up by USMNT for Training Camp
June 1, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Inter Miami CF News Release
Inter Miami CF goalkeeper Drake Callender has been called up to the United States Men's National Team for its upcoming training camp ahead of the Concacaf Nations League semifinal.
The 25-year old Callender will join up with the USMNT for the second time in his career; he was previously called up for the Allstate Continental Clásico against Mexico on April 19. The goalkeeper had also previously been selected for U.S. U-23 training camps in 2019 and 2021
Callender currently leads MLS with 61 saves made. The shot-stopper has started in all 15 regular season matches and currently has a save percentage of 76.3%, fifth-best among goalkeepers who have played at least five matches. Callender has also been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday three times this season.
The Sacramento, California native originally joined Inter Miami in 2019, going on to spend time with Inter Miami CF II before breaking through with the First Team in 2022. Last season, Callender earned a nomination as one of three finalists for the 2022 Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award. Following the successful campaign, he signed a new contract extension with the Club that will carry him through the 2025 season with an option for 2026.
The camp will serve as preparation for the USMNT's Concacaf Nations League semifinal match against Mexico on home soil at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Thursday, June 15 at 10 p.m. ET. The winner of this match will advance to the final round on June 18 to face the winner of Panama vs. Canada.
