Chasers' Hernandez Silences Sounds 5-0
August 26, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Storm Chasers right-hander Arnaldo Hernandez fired eight scoreless frames and faced just one batter above the minimum, while center fielder Rudy Martin mashed two hits, including his first Triple-A home run, in Omaha's 5-0 shutout victory over the Nashville Sounds on Monday evening at Werner Park.
The lone blemishes for Hernandez (8.0 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 4 K) were Sounds 2B Andy Ibanez 's first-inning double and a fifth-inning walk drawn by DH Jett Bandy . Following Ibanez's two-bagger, Hernandez retired 21 of the final 22 batters, with Bandy's free pass being the lone exception.
The right-hander, who fired his fourth consecutive quality outing, threw 83 pitches, including 62 strikes, to earn his fourth victory. Omaha lefty Gabe Speier (1.0 IP) tossed the final scoreless frame of support, while Nashville starter Pedro Payano (4.0 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 2 K).
Omaha got the only run needed two pitches into the last of the first frame when Martin crushed a solo shot to right, his first longball at the Triple-A level. That margin increased to four as two runs came across on RF Erick Mejia 's double to right, immediately followed by LF Jorge Bonifacio 's sacrifice fly. One frame later, C Adam Moore capped the scoring with a solo blast to left.
The two teams are set to continue their four-game series on Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
Tickets for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home contests can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at (402) 738-5100.
