Edmonton, Alberta - A total of thirty-two Manitobans, including eight from western Manitoba were chosen in Thursday's 20th Annual W estern Hockey League Bantam Draft in Edmonton.

Leading the way was Killarney defenceman Reid Gow, who went to the defending Memorial Cup Champion Spokane Chiefs with the 16th pick of the opening round. A 5'11" 165 lb defenceman, Gow was generally considered the top Manitoban heading into the draft. In addition to playing with the Killarney High School hockey team, Gow spent the majority of the 2008-09 campaign as a member of the Killarney Bantam A Stars.

The second highest Manitoban to be chosen was Dylan Kuczek, a 6'1" 190 lb defenceman with the Winnipeg Bantam AAA Sharks, who went to the Brandon Wheat Kings with the 40th overall selection of the draft.

Two western Manitobans were chosen in round three - defenceman Landon Peel of Virden, who went to the Regina Pats (50th) and Brandon's Landon Cross who was selected by the Kamloops Blazers (54th). As well, two other Manitobans went in round three - Oakbank's Brett Cote was taken by Chilliwack (48th) and Winnipeg's Adam Henry was chosen by Lethbridge (55th).

In the fourth round, a total of six Manitobans were selected - Notre Dame's Matt Vigier (Moose Jaw, 67th), Matt Miller of Winnipeg (Edmonton, 74th), Winnipeg's Travis Brown (Moose Jaw, 76th), Winnipeg goalkeeper Brenden Fiebelkorn (Seattle, 78th), Chris Driedger of Winnipeg (Tri-Cities, 80th) and Deloraine's Sutton Olsen (Swift Current, 81st).

Manitobans taken in the fifth round included Brandon's Brayden Cuthbert (Moose Jaw, 89th), Stony Mountain's Brett Stovin (Saskatoon, 90th), Kurt Johnas of Winnipeg (Kootenay, 101st) and Winnipeg's Justin Hamonic (Tri-Cities, 102nd).

In round six, the Portland Winter Hawks chose Winnipeg's Brendan Leipsic (112th overall), Jordyn Boyd of Winnipeg (Everett, 117th) and Brendan Harms of Steinbach went to Brandon (128th overall).

The seventh round saw three more Manitobans go - Colin Baudry of LaBroquerie went to Moose Jaw (133rd), Brandon chose Grandview's Ryan Pulock (136th) and Regina selected Ryan Leonzio of LaSalle (138th overall).

Oak Bluff's Brendan Dusik was one of three players from Manitoba to go in round eight, going to the Chilliwack Bruins with the 157th overall pick. Joining him were Winnipeg's Jack Rodewald (Regina, 160th) and Daniel Asham of Winnipeg (Wheat Kings, 172nd).

In round nine, Brandon opted for Tanner Jago of the Brandon AAA Bantam Wheat Kings with the 194th overall selection while his teammate Hudson Morrison was taken by Saskatoon (196th overall).

The tenth round saw Prince George draft Winnipeg's Yankik Tetreault (213th overall) and Brandon picked up Winnipeg Hawks' right winger Lyrik Friesen (216th overall).

Rounding out the list of Manitobans chosen were three in the eleventh - Winnipeg's Patrick D'Amico (Seattle, 232nd), Winnipeg's Jordan Dracojevic (Brandon, 238th overall) and Tri-City took Winnipegger Matt Hughesman (239th overall).

Of the Manitobans chosen, Brandon led the way with six followed by the Moose Jaw Warriors with four.
