VANCOUVER BC - The Vancouver Giants have acquired defenseman Ryan Funk from the Saskatoon Blades. In return the Blades received the Giants 5th round draft selection in this year's 2009 WHL Bantam Draft (90th overall from Portland).

Funk, 20, from Morden, MB, is a 6', 180 pound right shooting defender. Last season, Funk played in all 72 games for the East Division Champion Blades, scoring four goals, adding 17 assists and tallying 127 penalty minutes. Funk also was an impressive +34. Over four seasons with the Blades, Funk has played 215 games, scoring eight goals and 38 assists for 48 points. Funk has also amassed 334 penalty minutes. 'Ryan is a really good defenseman, a top four defenseman, who will become part of our leadership core,' commented Giants General Manager Scott Bonner. 'Ryan is a physical defender who will add more grit to the back end of our team. He also comes from a good program in Saskatoon with a good coach. We know that Ryan will bring some good work habits with him.'
