Blach, pair of homers push River Cats to victory
April 25, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Sacramento River Cats News Release
Tacoma, Wash. - The Sacramento River Cats (10-9) received impressive performances from both sides of the field en route to a 4-1 win over the Tacoma Rainiers (7-13).
Left-hander Ty Blach, in his best outing of the young season, didn't allow a hit until the first batter of the bottom of the fifth when Tacoma's Shed Long raked a double into left field. Blach would finish the night tossing six innings with just one run to his name. Only four batters reached base with Blach on the mound, including one by way of a throwing error.
On the offensive side, Sacramento scored half their runs in the fourth inning when outfielder Mac Williamson and second baseman Austin Slater each launched solo home runs. Slater, who has now reached base 15 times in his last 28 plate appearances, added a double and a single later in the ballgame to finish the night 3-for-4.
Right-hander Enderson Franco (0-0, 6.55) is set to face former River Cats lefty Tommy Milone (1-1, 4.95) in game two of this five-game set. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. (PT). Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, or on Money 105.5 FM.
Additional Notes
- Blach's six strong innings were the most he'd thrown in a game since June 14 of last season when he tossed 6.2 innings of relief in Miami to help the Giants win a 16-inning game that lasted four hours and 49 minutes.
- Left-hander Sam Selman, signed by the Giants late in spring training, has now totaled 10 scoreless innings between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento. The former Kansas City Royals second-round pick struck out 13 batters in his seven innings with the Flying Squirrels before being promoted to the River Cats.
