January 20, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
After building up a 4-1 lead after one period, the BEARS gave up three in a row and fell in a shootout 5-4 Friday at Wachovia Spectrum.
HERSHEY jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Eric Fehr picked up his 17th goal of the season on a shot between the circles in the Philadelphia zone. Lawrence Nycholat then added to the lead with a center point shot that eluded Phantoms goaltender Martin Houle. Nycholat's seventh goal of the season ran the score to 2-0. Fehr then tacked on a third consecutive power-play goal at the 15:37 mark to give the BEARS a 3-0 lead. Philadelphia's Tony Voce scored a power-play goal of his own for the Phantoms at 18:25 of the first to cut the HERSHEY lead to 3-1, but the BEARS would strike back quickly at the 19:30 mark when Nycholat picked up his second goal and fourth point of the period. The BEARS outshot Philadelphia 12-11 in the first period, and led the game 4-1 after one.
In the second period, the Phantoms rebounded to score two goals and close within one. Josh Gratton single-handedly brought Philadelphia back with goals at 3:07 and 18:41 of the second, as the Phantoms outshot HERSHEY 14-3 in the middle twenty minutes. Despite the limited offensive chances, the BEARS would take a 4-3 lead into the third period. In the third, Ryan Ready would tie the game with a goal at 16:24 to force overtime, with the Phantoms winning the game in the shootout in four rounds.
The BEARS return home Saturday and Sunday to face the Portland Pirates at GIANT Center. Face-off Saturday is set for 7:00 p.m., with Sunday's tilt slated for 5:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 508-BEAR.
