Falcons Host Norfolk Tonight

GAME SETUP: The Springfield Falcons and Norfolk Admirals will begin their four-game season series tonight at the MassMutual Center starting at 7:35 PM. The Falcons will head to Norfolk for two games on February 10 & 11, followed by the two teams concluding their season series in Springfield on Saturday, February 25.

The Falcons head into tonight's action starting a stretch of three games in three days this weekend, including back-to-back home games. Springfield hosts the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday night, before traveling to Providence for a 4:05 PM matinee against the Bruins on Sunday. Springfield enters tonight's action with a record of 14-20-2-4 good for 34 points in the Atlantic Division standings. Springfield will begin the second half of their regular season tonight and will conclude the month of January with seven games in the next 10 days.

Norfolk heads into Springfield on a six-game road trip and recently lost to the Albany River Rats, 4-3, on Wednesday night at the Pepsi Arena. The Admirals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in that contest, before surrendering four unanswered goals. Milan Bartovic, Martin St. Pierre, and Mark Cullen all scored for Norfolk against the River Rats. The Admirals currently have a record of 2-1-0-0 on their current voyage with wins in Hershey on January 15 and Bridgeport on January 16. The Admirals currently have a record of 19-15-2-2 good for 42 points and third place in the East Division.

SPRINGFIELD NATIVE RETURNS HOME: The Falcons announced on Tuesday that forward Dan Cavanaugh has been reassigned to Springfield by Philadelphia. Cavanaugh joined the Falcons on Wednesday as the team prepared for back-to-back home games this weekend.

Cavanaugh is a native of Springfield, MA and has played in 26 games for the Phantoms this season collecting two goals and six assists for eight points. Prior to joining Philadelphia this year, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound center spent four seasons with the Houston Aeros winning a Calder Cup Championship with Houston in 2003. Before joining the professional ranks, Cavanaugh spent three seasons with Boston University and collected 22 goals and 54 assists for 76 points in 111 games with the Terriers. Cavanaugh was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames with their second choice (38th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

BACK FROM JOHNSTOWN: The Falcons announced on Monday that forward Adam Henrich and defenseman Mike Egener have been recalled from their ECHL affiliate, the Johnstown Chiefs. Henrich has played in six games for the Falcons this season collecting two assists. In 28 games with Johnstown this season, Henrich has collected nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points. Egener returns to the Falcons after playing in Springfield's first six games of the season not collecting a point. In 18 games with the Chiefs, he has two goals and two assists. Springfield defenseman Gerard Dicaire rejoined the Falcons from Johnstown last Saturday in Syracuse.

NORFOLK STREAKS: Entering tonight's game, Norfolk centers Martin St. Pierre and Mark Cullen are tied for the team leading in scoring with 34 points each. St. Pierre is currently on a five-game scoring streak collecting three goals and two assists for five points in that span. St. Pierre is in his second season of professional hockey after splitting time in both Greenville (ECHL) and Edmonton (AHL) last season. Before joining the professional ranks, St. Pierre played four seasons with Guelph in the Ontario Hockey League where he ranks first in all-time assists with 212 with the Storm. St. Pierre made his NHL debut on November 4, 2005 against the Dallas Stars.

Cullen is also on a five-game scoring streak collecting four goals and six assists for 10 points in that span. Cullen spent the previous three seasons with Houston and was a teammate of Falcons center Dan Cavanaugh while with the Aeros.
