Bears Kick Off Weekend in South Philly
January 20, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
1/20/2006 8:26:00 AM - Looking to improve on a current second place standing in the AHL's East Division, HERSHEY begins three games in as many days tonight against the Philadelphia Phantoms at the Wachovia Spectrum.
The BEARS have gained points in all four previous meetings against the Phantoms in 2005-06, winning three times and dropping one game in overtime for a 3-0-1-0 mark against their Turnpike rival. The two clubs last met on December 31 at GIANT Center when the BEARS emerged with a 5-1 victory. Tonight's game is the only meeting between HERSHEY and Philadelphia during the month of January. The teams will meet next for a home-and-home series February 3-4. HERSHEY begins the night trailing first place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by ten standings points. The BEARS, however, lead third place Norfolk by 14 points as the night begins.
After playing at Philadelphia tonight, the BEARS will host the Portland Pirates for two games at GIANT Center this weekend. The Pirates are the new AHL affiliate of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and visit HERSHEY for the first time since the BEARS became the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals. The Caps placed their top prospects in Portland from 1993-94 through the end of last season. Saturday's game begins at 7:00 p.m., with Sunday's tilt slated for 5:00 p.m. Tickets for both games are available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 508-BEAR.
Tonight's game in Philadelphia can be heard via the BEARS radio network beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. John Walton has the call of the action from the Wachovia Spectrum. The game can be heard on 100.1 FM WQIC, 1490-AM WLPA, Pennlive.com and B2 Networks through HersheyBears.com.
