Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars and the Chicago Wolves met for the third time this season at Wells Fargo Arena and sixth time overall on Friday night. Unlike the previous five meetings, the Stars came-up short, falling 6-3 to the visiting Wolves. The sixth and final goal came via an empty-net.
Just as they have done 22 times before, the Iowa Stars scored the maiden marker in Friday's game. Center Toby Petersen scored his 12th goal of the season at 9:18 of the first period. After Chicago tied the game at one, forward David Oliver registered the Stars second power-play goal of the game at 13:58. Defenseman Patrick Traverse picked-up his second assist of the game on the goal. Eighteen seconds later, Chicago's Brian Maloney tied the game at two. Junior Lessard's team-leading 14th goal of the season gave Iowa a 3-2 lead going into the first intermission. Petersen recorded his seventh multiple-point game with an assist on Lessard's top-shelf goal.
The only goal of the second period came-off of Kip Miller's stick to tie the game at three.
Chicago then rattled-off three goals in the third period, including Kevin Doell's second of the evening to earn Chicago's first victory against Iowa in six games.
Iowa's Kyle Brodziak returned to the lineup after missing the previous 10 games with an injury. The Stars remain in fourth place in the West Division with 42 points.
Iowa Stars goaltender Dan Ellis faced 23 shots in the loss.
Attendance was 5,073. Power-play chances: IOWA: 2 for 6; CHICAGO: 1 for 6
NEXT THREE GAMES: The Iowa Stars host the Manchester Monarchs at 7:05 PM on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena. The first 5,000 fans will receive a Shooter Bobblehead! Also, join local area mascots in celebrating SHOOTER'S FIRST BIRTHDAY with various activities, including a mascot broomball during the first intermission.
