Tri-City Americans News Release

Kennewick, WA – The Tri-City Americans today have traded 17-year-old defenseman Isaac Smeltzer to the Regina Pats in exchange for 17-year-old defenseman Tanner Stockwell.

The 6'2", 225-pound Stockwell is a former 2002 first round WHL Bantam Draft pick (16th overall) by Regina. The native of Strathmore, Alberta has appeared in 39 WHL games for the Pats in 2002-03 and 2004 and has no points and 35 career penalty minutes. He is currently playing for the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL where he has collected two goals, eight points, 53 penalty minutes and is a plus 12 defensively in 25 games.

Smeltzer did not appear in a game for the Americans this season and spent three months on the disabled list after suffering a broken ankle in training camp. He has been given the green light medically to begin playing.

"Stockwell is a player that blocks shots consistently who knows his role and plays it well," said Americans vice president/general manager Bob Tory. "This is a young man who is very talented that has potential to improve and can log a lot of minutes at 18 and 19-year-old."

Stockwell will remain with Camrose for the remainder of the season to continue his development.
