Aces Hand Grizzlies Second Straight Loss, 3-0

March 3, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release

Anchorage, Alaska- The Grizzlies had nine power-play chances, but were unable to convert as they fell to the Alaska Aces for the second game in a row, 3-0.

The Aces scored a goal just 28 seconds into the game as Joe Talbot picked up his 24th of the season, assisted by Olivier Filion. Then Ryan Gaucher scored at 11:42, on power-play, with assists going to Talbot and Alex Leavitt, and Alaska took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Utah held the lead in shots during the second period, 11-8, but the Aces' Matt Underhill, and the Grizzlies' Alfie Michaud stopped all the shots they saw. Things got a little rough in the middle frame, as Utah's Tanner Shultz and Alaska's Keith McCambridge picked up five minutes each for fighting.

Penalties were the story of the third period with several on each side. But Alaska's Kimbi Daniels was awarded a penalty shot after being taken down by Louis Dumont on a breakaway, and Daniels beat Michaud to increase the lead to 3-0 Aces.

The loss for Utah (32-22-5) was the first time the Grizzlies have been shut out this season, and was Matt Underhill's league-leading fifth shutout on the year. The Aces and Grizzlies have one more game in Alaska before coming back to Utah; Saturday, March 4, at 9:15 p.m.
