Reading Royals Set To Greet Millionth Fan
March 3, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL take this opportunity to celebrate and remind fans of an impending team milestone: the organization expects to greet its one-millionth fan through the turnstiles at the Sovereign Center before the conclusion of the current regular season. As of this date, 960,919 fans have attended Royals' regular season home games in the five seasons up to and including this 2005-06 year. Reading has nine regular season home games remaining, and based on current projections, it is expected that the millionth fan will actually pass through the turnstile on either Friday, March 24th (7:00 pm) when the Johnstown Chiefs are in Reading, or on Saturday, March 25th (7:00 pm), when the Trenton Titans visit the Sovereign Center.
As one can imagine, the Royals' organization expects to host a celebration that befits this momentous occasion in the history of the organization. The individual who actually is the one-millionth fan to attend a Royals' game at the Sovereign Center can expect to receive a variety of gifts from the Royals' organization, as well as an opportunity to win significant prizes in an on-ice promotion held during one of the intermissions at that night's game. Details on the prizes and contest opportunities will be forthcoming as the impending date for the celebration becomes closer.
Gordon Kaye, the general manager of the Royals, stated, "we believe that this is an extremely significant event-not only for our organization, but for the entire Royals family. To have one million fans attend Royals' games in less than five years of play is a testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment within our organization and our community to make professional hockey work in the City of Reading. We would be remiss if we didn't take this opportunity to thank SMG President Wes Westley for having the vision and foresight to see that minor league hockey would thrive in Reading - and for providing us with the support over the past five years that has allowed the Royals to become one of the premier organizations in all of minor league hockey.
"In that vain, we also express our sincere thanks to SMG and the Sovereign Center employees, who have been such a significant part of the first rate product that we seek to deliver our fans on a game-in-game-out basis. All of these people need to be commended particularly since the Sovereign Center remains such a jewel of the community even after literally millions of people have had the opportunity to experience joy within its walls. And most of all, we would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our fans. The Royals' organization has always felt that we've had the best fans in the league, and our fans have done nothing to make us think otherwise over the last five seasons. Thank you, again."
The Royals return to action at the Sovereign Center with a pair of games this weekend-Friday against the Johnstown Chiefs (7:00 pm) and Saturday against the Trenton Titans (7:00 pm). On Friday, the first 1500 fans 21 or older will receive a Mike's Hard Lemonade pint glass courtesy of All-Star Distributing; and on Saturday, the first 2000 fans will receive a Barry Brust bobblehead, commemorating Reading's fifth anniversary season. Royals' game day broadcasts can be heard on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata and www.royalshockey.com with pre-game beginning 30 minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available through the Royals' website on a pay per view basis provided by B2 Networks.
