Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Bakersfield Condors flew into Victoria for game one of a three game series and have already played four periods. The Salmon Kings fished their third point of the season against the Condors in a 4-3 shootout loss.

Bakersfield Winger Kevin Kotyluk opened the scoring 1:36 into the first period as his shot rebound evened off traffic in front of Netminder B.J. Boxma. Four minutes later, the Salmon Kings evened the score as Tyler Shybunka earned his third goal in nine games with Victoria. Jade Galbraith dropped a pass to Shybunka in the slot and his slapshot tied the game 1-1.

Joel Irving gave the Condors the lead again in the second period, soaring down the left wing and sneaking the puck just inside the left post at 8:15 into the period. The Salmon Kings power play tied the game 2-2 as league leading power play goal scorer as a defenseman, Steve Lingren, posted his 13th with 3:22 left in the period.

The S-Kings took the lead for the first time in the game as Adam Taylor pounced on a second effort rebound from Ryan Wade's wraparound attempt, and backhanded the puck past Goaltender Marty Magers at 7:31 into the third period.

With 59 seconds remaining in regulation, Bakersfield tied the score 3-3 as team leading scorer Sean Venedam tallied his 27th goal of the season in a 3-on-2 rush.

The Salmon Kings faced the Condors in their sixth game since February 1st to go into extra periods. Boxma made three clutch saves in the Overtime period to force the second straight shootout for the S-Kings.

Galbraith beat Magers as the third Salmon King shooter, but Venedam, Kevin St. Jacques, and Dave Bonk all scored to secure the Shootout win for Bakersfield, and give the team its 26th win.

Victoria was 1-5 on the power play and shut out Bakersfield in all of their five attempts with the man advantage. Magers earned his second win and Boxma suffered the shoot out loss. Victoria outshot Bakersfield 39-37 through the four periods.
