Grizzlies' Michaud RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Alfie Michaud of the Utah Grizzlies is the RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month for February.

The 29-year-old was 8-0-2 with three shutouts, a goals against of 1.76 and a save percentage of .964 to help the Grizzlies go 10-2-2 and improve to 32-20-5 to move into third place in the West Division with 69 points.

He had a seven-game winning streak from Feb. 4-24 in which he stopped 196 of 208 shots for a .942 save percentage and allowed 12 goals for a goals against of 1.76 while also posting two shutouts on the road. He was named ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 13-19 becoming only the second two-time winner this season.

In his seventh professional season, the 5-foot-10 and 177-pound Michaud is 19-8-3 with a save percentage of .912. He is tied for the league lead with four shutouts while ranking 10th in the ECHL in goals-against average with 2.65.

Prior to joining Utah, Michaud spent two seasons with Peoria of the ECHL, going 27-13-5 with a 2.04 goals-against average and .929 save percentage and a league-leading six shutouts in 2004-05. In 2002-03 he was named ECHL goaltender of the year, posting a record of 20-4-4 and leading the league with a 2.10 goals-against average and recording a .927 save percentage. He has also played in the ECHL for Reading and has a career ECHL record of 71-28-14 with 13 shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.34 and a save percentage of .923 in 119 regular season games.

The native of Selkirk, Manitoba has played in the American Hockey League with Syracuse, Manitoba and Worcester where he has a career record of 28-27-6 and goals against of 2.68 and a save percentage of .909 in 72 games. He played two games in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks in 1999-2000.

He played three years for the University of Maine and was 60-26-8 with six shutouts and goals against of 2.85. He helped the Black Bears win NCAA Championship in 1998-99 after going 28-6-3 with a 2.32 goals-against average and was named the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Tournament.
