Penguins Assign Sneep, Manderson to Nailers

November 3, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL) Wheeling Nailers

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced two transactions, with both taking effect immediately. The AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have loaned forward Denver Manderson to the Nailers, while also assigning defenseman Carl Sneep to Wheeling.

Manderson, 23, spent the entire 2011-12 season with the Nailers, as he made his North American hockey professional debut. In 52 games with Wheeling, Denver recorded 18 goals, 22 assists, and 40 points, while also posting a plus-11 rating. Prior to turning pro, the Fergus, ON spent a short period of time in the OHL, before truly finding his stride with the BCHL's Penticton Vees. Manderson appeared in 115 games over three seasons with the Vees, racking up 69 goals, 152 assists, and 221 points, including a 40-goal, 113-point campaign in his final season, 2009-10. Denver then spent one season in Finland, playing for HeKi, before joining the Nailers. The second year forward has yet to appear in a game this season.

Sneep, 25, is currently in the midst of his third season of professional hockey - all of which have taken place with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. Carl's journey to the pro ranks began with a four-year career at Boston College, which included National Championship wins in 2008 and 2010. Following his senior year, the St. Louis Park, MN native joined the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, appearing in 61 games as a rookie, while tallying four goals, 13 assists, and 17 points. Last season, Sneep picked up ten assists in 40 games with the Baby Pens, while also playing in one game with Pittsburgh, assisting on an Evgeni Malkin goal against the Buffalo Sabres. The third year blueliner has appeared in one game this season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Manderson, Sneep, and the Nailers will battle the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday night at 7:35 at US Bank Arena, before returning to Wheeling on Wednesday, to host the Reading Royals.
