December 27, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - Idaho defenseman Zach Yuen netted two goals in the second period, including the game-winner, as the Steelheads (12-14-5) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (16-9-2) for the fourth straight time, 5-2 at CenturyLink Arena. The Steelheads are now unbeaten in regulation in their past six games, their longest streak of the season.

Rob Linsmayer added three assists, pushing his team-leading points total to 28. Kyle Jean added an assist to extend his points streak to six games. Jefferson Dahl scored a power play insurance goal in the third period to extend his goal-scoring streak to four games, all power play goals. Dahl's eight power play goals are tied for the ECHL lead, and he now has goals in six of his past seven games.

The Steelheads were leading 1-0 at the start of the second period thanks to Carson McMillan's fifth goal of the season, a power play tally at 14:03 of the first period. That lead was erased by a Phil Pietroniro wrist shot just 2:10 into the second period, but Yuen answered right back with two goals in a span of 4:08 to restore and then pad the Idaho lead.

Just 24 seconds after the Pietroniro goal, a Shayne Taker turnover floated to the high slot in the Utah zone for Yuen to step into and blast past Utah goaltender Ryan Faragher. Just over four minutes later, on the power play, Yuen one-timed a Kyle Jean feed to the same spot low glove to beat Faragher again and make it 3-1 Idaho. They were Yuen's third and fourth goals of the season.

With 4:05 remaining in the third period, Dahl stepped off the left wing boards and fired a power play wrister past Faragher to make it 4-2. Emil Molin would add his ninth of the season into an empty net at 18:28 to seal the win.

Faragher stopped 47 shots earlier this season at CenturyLink Arena to defeat the Steelheads 4-1 on October 30th. Tonight in their second meeting, the Steelheads beat Faragher for four goals on 23 shots to hand him his second regulation loss of the season. Philippe Desrosiers made 25 saves to move his record to 7-6-3.

The Steelheads power play now has goals in six straight games, with 12 total over that span thanks to Saturday night's three goal performance.

The win pushed the Steelheads into a four-way tie for sixth place in the Western Conference with 29 points, though they've played more games than the Fort Wayne Komets, Rapid City Rush, and Tulsa Oilers. They have also earned points in five of their past six games at CenturyLink Arena, moving their home record back to .500 at 5-5-5.

The Steelheads and Grizzlies battle again on Monday night at Maverik Center, where the Steelheads are 2-0-0 this season. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:05pm MT, heard on 1350AM KTIK and seen on ECHLTV.

PLAY OF THE GAME:

In one of those "remember that play" moments, Philippe Desrosiers preserved the Steelheads' 3-2 lead late in the second period. TJ Syner moved down the left wing on a Grizzlies' 3-on-2 rush and snapped a hard low shot on Desrosiers, who kicked the rebound out to a driving Matt Berry. Berry had four goals in four games against the Steelheads coming into the contest and was looking for a fifth, one-timing the puck back towards an open net before Desrosiers lunged across the crease and batted the puck away with his glove for his best stop of the night. Desrosiers was called on a few times in the third period as well, but that save kept Idaho in front and carried them through the middle frame.
