Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced forwards Jack Combs and Josh Nicholls have each been promoted to Hartford. Nicholls has been recalled to Hartford by New York, while Combs has been recalled from loan by the Wolf Pack. In addition, forward Andrew Dommett has been activated from the injured reserve.
A seventh-year pro, Combs leads the Swamp Rabbits in goals (15), assists (16) and points (31) this season and is third in the league in point scoring overall. The 27-year-old is also tied for the league-lead in goal scoring after netting the game-winning goal in overtime last night against Atlanta. He is currently on a six-game point streak dating back to December 10. In addition, Combs played one AHL game with the Wolf Pack earlier this season.
Under contract with Hartford, Combs split last season between three ECHL teams (Allen, Stockton and Cincinnati) and two stints in Europe with the second-tier leagues in Sweden and Russia. Most notably, the 27-year-old collected 56 points (22g, 34a) in only 32 games with the Allen Americans early in the season. He finished the 2014-15 campaign with 76 points (31g, 45a) in 47 games, good for sixth in the league's scoring race. Overall, Combs has earned 223 points (105g, 118a) in 178 ECHL games. He also boasts 75 points (38g, 37a) in 144 AHL games with Peoria, Bridgeport, Worcester, Chicago, San Antonio and Oklahoma City.
Prior to turning pro, the 5'11, 200-pound forward played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kitchener Rangers and Saginaw Spirit, amassing 235 points (96g, 139a) in 298 career games.
Nicholls, 23, is second on the Swamp Rabbits in goal scoring this season (10) and tied for second on the club with 21 points. He is currently the only player to appear in all 29 games so far this season.
A native of Tsawwassen, British Columbia, Nicholls has played 145 games with the Swamp Rabbits over the past three seasons including 53 contests last year and 63 games during the 2013-14 campaign. He led the team with 21 goals last season and ranked second on the club with 43 points. Under contract with New York, Nicholls has also skated 11 games with the Wolf Pack, recording one assist.
Prior to turning pro, the 6'2, 186-pound forward spent five seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Saskatoon Blades and collected an impressive 313 points (138g, 175a) in 332 career games.
Nicholls was originally selected in the seventh round (182nd overall) by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Â
Dommett, 25, has played seven games with the Swamp Rabbits this season, recording seven penalty minutes. The rookie had been on the injured reserve since November 30.
