Fuel Holds off Mallards

December 27, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Matt White and Ben Marshall scored first period goals and Mac Carruth made 27 saves as the host Indy Fuel (13-15-2) defeated the undermanned Quad City Mallards (15-12-3) 2-1 Sunday.

Despite suffering a home-and-home weekend sweep at the hands of the Fuel, the Mallards remain in first place in the ECHL's Midwest Division.

The Fuel jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first. White opened the scoring from the doorstep three minutes and four seconds into the game. Just over three minutes later, Marshall's blast from the right wing circle doubled the Indy advantage. The Mallards' Olivier Archambault charged into the right wing circle to cut the gap to 2-1 at 8:43 of the first, but Carruth and the Fuel fended off the Mallards' efforts to equalize the rest of the way.

Due to injuries, the Mallards dressed just 14 skaters for today's game rather than the standard 16.

The Malllards next play at home Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. against the Evansville Icemen. Wednesday evening will see the Mallards team with Disc Replay to honor academic achievement with Disc Replay Report Card Night. Students with an "A" or other exemplary grade on any report card from the 2015-16 school year are eligible to receive a free ticket to Wednesday's game.
