Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Colin Stevens turned away all 44 shots he faced and earned his first professional shutout, as the Manchester Monarchs blanked the Adirondack Thunder, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
The Monarchs (19-11-0-1) earned their first shutout of the season, and second win against the Thunder (17-6-1-1) on the season.
"We played much better than we did last night," Head Coach Rich Seeley said. "We had good energy, stuck with our systems, and ultimately, were able to grab a goal and build off of it. It was a solid win overall with everybody doing their part."
Alex Roach started the Monarchs scoring at 7:07 of the first period, scoring his 3rd goal of the season. Roach wristed a shot from the left point past Adirondack goaltender, Ken Appleby, on a shot Appleby will probably want back, to put the Monarchs up 1-0.
Maxim Kitsyn doubled the Monarchs lead 1:37 into the second period, netting his 9th goal of the season. Gasper Kopitar sent a pass from behind the net to Kitsyn who was camped in front of the net where he buried a shot, top-shelf, past Appleby for his 9th goal of the season.
The star of the game was Stevens however, as he turned away all 44 of the shots he faced, 18 of which came in the final frame.
The Monarchs return to action at the Jungle on Thursday (7 p.m.) when they host the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on New Year's Eve. After the game, the largest indoor fireworks show New England has to offer will be on display, as well as the much anticipated year-in-review video. A silent auction and WZID's Great Baby Race are just a few of the events to look forward to as we ring in a new year with the Monarchs!
