Wheeling Make Nailers Roster Moves
December 9, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
The Wheeling Nailers have announced several roster moves. Tommy Goebel and Curtis Darling will both be heading to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL. David Brown is being re-assigned to Wheeling from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Rob Sirianni is returning to the Nailers after he was loaned to Binghamton of the AHL for three weeks.
Goebel is a rookie out of Ohio State who thrilled the fans right from the beginning of the season with his speed and scoring. He was the CCM Tacks ECHL Player of the Month for October after leading the league in scoring during that stretch with 7 goals and 8 assists. He recorded his first professional hat trick on October 26th against the Trenton Devils. Goebel is currently 4th in the ECHL and 1st in rookies in scoring and also 1st on the Nailers (10+17=27). This will be the Parma, Ohio native's second appearance in the AHL after playing in 5 games with the Rochester Americans last year.
Curtis Darling will head up to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as well after going 9-3-3, 3.14, .907 with the Nailers so far this year. He won RBK ECHL Goalie of the Week honors his 3 game stretch from Nov 19-22 vs. TRE and CIN. In that week he went 2-0-1 with a shutout, a GAA of 1.27 and a saves percentage of .962. This is actually his second call-up to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this year. He received a brief call up last week while the Nailers were off and David Brown had to tend to personal matters. Darling did not play in his previous call up to the Baby Pens.
Rob Sirianni was on loan to the Binghamton Senators of the AHL where he appeared in 6 games scoring 1 goal on a penalty shot November 22 vs. the Philadelphia Phantoms. Sirianni's last game with the Nailers was November 15th at Elmira. The Bemidji State University product began the season with an 11 game point scoring streak which is the longest in the ECHL this season. He is still 6th on the Nailers in scoring (8+11=19) and 3rd in plus-minus at +11 despite having played in only 11 of the team's 20 games.
David Brown comes back to the Nailers following a 3 week stint with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in which he appeared in 3 games. Brown began the season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as well playing in one game. Brown was an 8th round selection of the Penguins (#228 overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Overall the Notre Dame product has appeared in 4 game with the Baby Pens going 1-2-0, 3.94, .841. He picked up the win November 28th vs. Norfolk allowing 3 goals and turning away 26 shots in a 4-3 decision. He has appeared in 5 games with the Nailers this season going 3-1-1, 2.34, .928. His most recent game with Wheeling was November 15th in a stellar performance at Elmira getting the win 4-1 and allowing no 'regular' goals and only surrendering a penalty shot goal in a dazzling 24 save performance. Brown led the nation in goals against average at Notre Dame in 06-07 at 1.58 and won CCHA Player of the Year honors.
The Nailers are back in action this weekend beginning with a Friday night road game at the defending league champion Cincinnati Cyclones. The Nailers return to home ice Saturday at 7:35 and Sunday at 6:05 with a pair of games vs. the Reading Royals.
