Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Goaltender Marek Schwarz, who won his first 10 starts in an Alaska sweater last season, has been re-assigned to the Aces by their NHL affiliate in St. Louis.
In a separate transaction, the Blues re-assigned goalie Chris Holt, who stopped all 32 shots he faced in a 6-0 shutout of Bakersfield Saturday, to the Peoria Rivermen. Holt posted a 3-2 record in five starts for Alaska to go along with a 1.80 goals against average and a .946 save percentage after winning both of his starts in Peoria earlier this season.
Schwarz, who was selected by St. Louis with the 17th overall pick of the 2004 NHL Draft, has played in 10 games this season for Peoria, going 4-4 with a 3.56 GAA and an .868 save percentage, and in two more for the Blues, stopping all five shots that he has faced in 15 minutes of work. The 22-year-old Czech Republic native led the Aces to a first round sweep of defending Kelly Cup champion Idaho in the first round of the 2008 playoffs, finishing the series with a 1.83 GAA and a .951 save percentage, and kept Alaska alive with another win in Game Four of the conference semi-finals against Las Vegas. His 6-0 regular season mark for the Aces included three shootout wins over the Wranglers last February.
The Aces (14-7-1) open a three-game series at home against Idaho Friday and Saturday night at 7:15 p.m., with Sunday's series finale scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage on KFQD AM 750 begins 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off this weekend. Alaska took five of a possible six points from the Steelheads in a three-game series played in Boise last month. Idaho (12-8-2) trails West Division-leading Alaska by five points heading into its road game with Utah tonight.
