Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, are pleased to announce that goaltender Craig Kowalski has been named the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 1-7.
Kowalski, 27, went 2-0-0 with a 0.60 goals against average and a .980% save percentage in two appearances against the Las Vegas Wranglers. The Clinton Township, Michigan native and fifth-year professional came on in relief of Kyle Jones Wednesday and stopped all 22 shots he faced to rally the RoadRunners past the Wranglers 6-3. Kowalski then started Friday and made 26 saves to propel Phoenix to a 4-1 win.
It's the third time in his career that Kowalski has been named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week. He last received the honor for the week of Dec. 3-9, 2007 after going 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average and a .956% save percentage in two starts as a member of the Gwinnett Gladiators.
It's the second time in the four-year ECHL history of the club that a RoadRunners' goalie has received the league's weekly award. Cody Rudkwosky was named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 11-17, 2006 after going 2-0-1 in three starts with a 1.94 goals against average and a .945% save percentage, which included a 51-save shutout of the Texas Wildcatters on Dec. 15, 2006.
The RoadRunners open a brief two-game road trip at 8:05 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12 when they visit the Victoria Salmon Kings at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in the opener of a weekend series. Catch all the action live on Independent 1310 KXAM beginning with "RoadRunners Countdown" at 7:45 p.m.
Phoenix returns to US Airways Center at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 as they welcome the Utah Grizzlies for a two-game series.
