Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, are pleased to announce their third "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer", and will once again host the program in conjunction with the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

The RoadRunners "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will commence at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday with a special Meet and Greet Party at Phoenix Children's Hospital's Melvin L. Cohen Conference Center located inside the Rosenberg Children's Building on the hospital's main campus located at 1919 E Thomas Road in Phoenix.

"Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" is a program that will pair RoadRunners' players with 20 children from across Arizona who suffer from pediatric cancer. For the next 10 weeks, the players and children will participate in a series of four social events with the hopes of creating a lasting relationship and increased awareness about childhood cancer in the community.

Other events in the third "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will include a special locker room tour following the RoadRunners game on Saturday, Jan. 17 against the Bakersfield Condors, and a "Claymation Creation" event that will take place on Monday, Feb. 2 once again at the hospital's Cohen Conference Center.

The "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will culminate at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 when the RoadRunners recognize the Phoenix Children's patients participating in the program in a special on-ice ceremony preceeding their game against the Ontario Reign. Following the game, the Phoenix RoadRunners will be auctioning off interactive "VIP Experiences" with the players with the proceeds benefiting the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children's Hospital and Caps For Kids, a national non-profit organization which provides hats autographed by athletes and celebrities to children who lose their hair due to the effects of chemotherapy.

Since the program's inception in 2006, the RoadRunners have raised a total of $29,400 in the fight against pediatric cancer.

Originated by the Mississippi Sea Wolves Hockey Club of the ECHL in 2003 and later duplicated by both the Atlantic City (N.J.) Boardwalk Bullies Hockey Club and the Fresno Falcons Hockey Club of the ECHL, "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" has touched hundred of lives and raised thousands of dollars in the fight against cancer.
