Checkers Ford Returns To Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C. - The Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League have released Checkers forward Matthew Ford from his Professional Tryout agreement. Ford will be in the lineup for the Checkers tonight on the road against the defending Kelly Cup Champions, the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Ford, 6-foot-1, 207-pounds was selected in the 8th round of the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. In five games with the Checkers this season, he collected six goals and three assists for nine points. Upon his call up, he spent 12 games with Hartford scoring one goal and six penalty minutes.

Ford spent the last four seasons playing for the University of Wisconsin where he totaled 21 goals, 18 assists for 38 points in 124 games. The West Hills, Calif. native also collected 100 penalty minutes during his four seasons with the Badgers.

The Checkers are playing their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game will take place Dec. 17th night against the Elmira Jackals at 7 p.m. start. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
