VICTORIA, B.C. - G Yutaka Fukufuji made 35 saves but it wasn't enough as the Condors fell to the Salmon Kings, 2-0, before 4,565 fans at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre Tuesday night.
The Salmon Kings (13-9-2, 28pts) and Condors (8-10-3, 19pts) skated to a scoreless tie in the opening frame. Bakersfield was strong defensively against Victoria, allowing only six shots on goal, while putting up 10 themselves. G Yutaka Fukufuji got the start in net for the Condors, while G Julien Ellis was his counterpart between the pipes for the Salmon Kings.
Both clubs had their share of chances in the second stanza, but the score remained tied 0-0. Victoria pelted Fukufuji with 13 second period shots, while Ellis stopped 10 more in the period as well to keep it scoreless. Both clubs had opportunities with the man advantage, but the game proceeded as the longest scoreless tie of the season for the Condors.
The first goal of the game didn't come until 10:59 of the third frame. D Matt Kelly chipped a one-timer off the post and then chipped in the rebound for his fourth goal of the season. The Salmon Kings, who led in shots 18-4 in the third, added an empty netter to seal the win.
