CINCINNATI, Ohio - Goaltender Max Daigneault stopped 24 shots in helping Charlotte to a 4-1 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Tuesday night. Daigneault, who was part of the Kelly Cup championship team in 2007-08, stopped all 13 third period shots in securing the victory.

Charlotte scored the first two goals of the opening frame, as Peter Tsimikalis picked up his fifth goal of the season at 12:17. The lead extended to 2-0, as David Rutherford also registered his fifth goal of the season at 15:33. The Checkers outshot Cincinnati, 19-5, in the opening 20 minutes.

After seven minutes of game play in the first period, the fire alarm at U.S. Bank Arena was triggered and the facility was evacuated, due to an air handler malfunction. Following a twelve minute break to assure the safety of the spectators and players-play resumed, with the Cincinnati Fire Department and arena officials assuring the safe conditions. It was the first time the alarm had been activated during a hockey game since the pregame of the 1999 IHL All-Star Game (January 17, 1999).

The second period saw the teams exchange goals. Cincinnati closed the gap to 2-1 at 10:59 when Ben Gordon scored his fourth goal of the season on a Charlotte turnover and utilized a three-on-one break to get the Cyclones first goal of the contest. A little less than two minutes later, at 12:12, Mathew Ford netted his seventh of the season to extend the lead to 3-1.

Mike Taylor scored the final goal for Charlotte at 8:13, his fifth of the season. The final score was 4-1 in favor of the Checkers.

The Cyclones are now 11-9-4 on the season, while Charlotte is 10-10-2. Cincinnati hosts Wheeling on Friday night for the annual Teddy Bear Toss game, where fans bring new or gently loved stuffed animals to the game and on the Cyclones first goal throw them on the ice. The animals will be turned over to the Shriners.
