Walleye Grab North Division Title with 6-3 Win in Fort Wayne

(Fort Wayne, IN) Josh Shalla and Tyler Sikura each scored twice as the Walleye ran away from the Komets 6-3 Friday night in Fort Wayne. Toledo has an overall record of 42-18-2-3 and 18-11-2-2 on the road. The win secured the North Division for the Walleye.

The Komets struck first in the game as a pass in front of the Toledo net that went off of Dajon Mingo and past goaltender Jake Paterson at 5:24 of the first period. Tyler Sikura (15th) took a rebound and evened the game at a goal apiece at 14:28.

Kyle Bonis (12th) led a two on one up the ice with Shane Berschbach at 6:04 that saw Bonis wrist a shot past Komets goaltender Pat Nagle and 2-1 lead. After Fort Wayne tied the game, Tyler Sikura was at it again as he sent a perfect wrist shot into the back of the net at 17:38 for a 3-2 Walleye lead after two periods.

Josh Shalla took a pass from Beau Schmitz at 10:53 and picked up his 17th goal of the season on a breakaway and a 4-2 Walleye lead. The Komets closed to with one before Shalla did it again with a wrist shot from the right circle that went over the glove hand of Nagle at 18:26. Joe Sova added the empty net goal at 19:22, his second goal of the year.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson turned aside 21 of the 24 Fort Wayne shots he faced and has a record of 15-9-1-1 on the season. Toledo out shot Fort Wayne 15-3 in the second period and 25-11 over the final two periods of play.
