Eagles Rally for 5-4 Overtime Victory in Idaho
March 25, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
(Boise, ID) - Eagles forward Johnny Lazo scored a pair of goals, while defenseman Adrian Veideman buried the game-winner in overtime to give the Eagles a 5-4 victory over the Idaho Steelheads on Friday. Idaho forward Rob Linsmayer provided a hat trick in the Steelheads' loss.
Idaho jumped on the board first, as Linsmayer skated down the end line and to the top of the crease where he would lift the puck over the shoulder of Eagles goaltender Clarke Saunders to give the Steelheads the 1-0 lead at the 7:41 mark of the first period.
Colorado would find an answer with 3:09 remaining in the first when forward Kyle Ostrow served up a pass from behind the net which fellow forward Kyle Kraemer would one-time into the net to tie the game at 1-1.
With the game knotted-up after 20 minutes, Idaho would regain the lead when Linsmayer grabbed a loose puck in front of the net and tucked it home to make it 2-1 Steelheads with 3:24 gone in the second period.
The Eagles would again draw even, as Lazo stormed down the right-wing boards on a one-on-one rush, unfurling a slapshot that would beat Idaho goaltender Phillipe Desrosiers and tying the game at 2-2 at the 8:42 mark of the middle frame.
With Colorado on their second powerplay of the game, forward Trent Daavetilla would field a rebound in the low-slot and fire it into the net to give the Eagles their first lead of the night at 3-2 with 8:37 left in the period.
Minutes later, Idaho would counter with a power-play goal of their own when forward Emil Molin stuffed in a puck off a cross-slot feed to knot the score at 3-3. Linsmayer would complete his hat trick by jamming home a puck from the top of the crease to give the Steelheads the 4-3 advantage after 40 minutes.
Colorado would outshoot the Steelheads 12-5 in the final period of regulation, thanks in part to a five-minute major powerplay, after Steelheads captain Carson McMillan boarded Kraemer along the end wall. On that ensuing man-advantage, Lazo would deflect a shot from the point from Veideman into the back of the net to tie the game at 4-4 and ultimately forcing overtime.
In the extra session, Veideman would take a pass from between the circles and wrist into the net for his seventh game-winning goal of the season and securing the Eagles 5-4 victory at the 2:35 mark of overtime.
Colorado and Idaho will wrap-up their two-game series when the square off at CenturyLink Arena in Boise on Saturday, March 26th at 7:10pm.
Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
