Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Forward Ty Loney has been loaned to the Nailers by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Loney, 24, has split his first professional season between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Wheeling, having appeared in 52 total games between the AHL and ECHL levels. Ty started the campaign with the Nailers, and made an immediate impact, scoring two goals on Opening Night against the Norfolk Admirals. In the middle of November, the Valencia, Pennsylvania native had back-to-back stellar performances, as he dished out three assists in a 4-2 triumph over the Evansville IceMen, before adding two more points in the following contest - a 6-5 win at Florida. Loney has registered at least one point in each of his last five games with the Nailers, raising his season total to 16 in 21 games. Ty has accumulated six points in 31 tilts with the AHL Penguins.

Prior to his rookie campaign, Loney got a taste of professional hockey at the end of the 2014-15 season, when he joined the then AHL's Norfolk Admirals for five games. There, he produced two goals and two assists for four points, following a four-year collegiate career at the University of Denver. Ty's most productive seasons came during his sophomore and junior years, when he racked up 26 points in each season, including a career-high 11 goals in 2013-14. Before that, he played for the nearby Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL, with whom he tallied 46 points in 71 games over a two-year span.

Ty Loney joins the Nailers in the middle of their three-game road trip, and is expected to be in the lineup on Friday, when the team faces the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:00. In order to make room for Loney on the roster, forward Rob De Fulviis has been released. Wheeling has two exciting home games next week at WesBanco Arena. On April 1st, fans will be able to meet Si Robertson as part of Duck Dynasty Night. In addition, Valley Harley Davidson presents Biker Night. Then, on April 2nd, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will be a part of the fun, as the Nailers continue their March to the Playoffs.
