Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals faced one-goal deficits in each of the first two periods but rallied to score four unanswered goals and blow past the Brampton Beast, 5-2. Jacob MacDonald scored his 15th goal of the season, which set a new Jackals single-season record for goals scored by a defenseman and Guy LeBoeuf recorded his first professional goal in his 132nd pro game. Ian Young, Matt Garbowsky and Colin Jacobs also scored for the Jackals. Shane Owen stopped 26 shots to improve to 7-0-0 in seven starts with the Jackals.
The Beast opened the scoring at 11:57 of the first period as Jeff Brown knocked in his 13th goal of the season off a bouncing puck in the slot. Nick McParland and David Ling earned the assists.
The Jackals responded and added the tying tally at 17:55 of the opening frame. Allan McPherson and Cason Hohmann started a rush down the right wing side and as Hohmann drove the net McPherson used his vision to find Ian Young trailing the play. Young finished the rush with a wrist shot past Kenny Reiter for his third goal of the season and first since January 27. McPherson and Hohmann both extended their point streak to four games with their assists.
Brampton was awarded an early power-play in the second period and capitalized to regain its lead. Just 46 seconds into the man advantage Mike Vernace fired a shot past Shane Owen for his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Jordan Henry and Jeff Brown.
Yet again, the pack answered back and knotted the game with a power-play goal of their own. Matt Garbowsky fed a pass to the point and Nathan Oystrick moved it across the blue line to Colin Jacobs who ripped a slap shot through Tyler Currier's screen in front for his 13th goal of the season, coming at 10:53.
Just 1:03 later the Jackals jumped on the Beast and took their first lead of the night. Tyler Currier walked into the Brampton zone and dropped a pass to Zach Cohen who sauntered into the slot and released two shots that were both stopped by Reiter. But, sitting on the doorstep was Guy LeBoeuf, who hacked in the rebound and earned his first professional goal in his 132nd pro game.
Elmira added to its lead in the third period with an insurance marker at 5:06. Nathan Oystrick laid a pass to Cason Hohmann who moved it to Matt Garbowsky in the circle for a quick release up and over the shoulder of Reiter for his seventh goal of the season.
The Jackals weren't done scoring as Jacob MacDonald blasted a one-timer from the blue line on the power-play at 8:46 for his 15th goal of the season, which set a new Jackals single-season record for goals scored by a defenseman. Kyle Bushee and Justin Bernhardt earned the assists on MacDonald's marker.
Shane Owen stopped 26 of 28 shots faced to improve his record to 7-0-0 in seven starts since he was acquired by Elmira from Indy. Kenny Reiter allowed five goals on 33 shots faced and was handed the loss.
