Aces Win Another Shootout, Down Rapid City

March 25, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Tony Deluca scored the only goal of the shootout, and goaltender Jacob DeSerres won his 4th straight shootout as the Alaska Aces downed the Rapid City Rush 6-5 Thursday night at the Sullivan Arena.

Aces rookie forward Alec Hajdukovich scored his first professional goal on his first professional shot at 2:44 of the opening period. His snap-shot from the lower left circle beat Rush goaltender Danny Battochio, assisted by Ryan Tesink and Patrick Wellar.

Scoring certainly heated up in the second period. Garet Hunt scored his 10th goal of the season on a severe angle, surprising Battochio and giving Alaska a 2-0 lead at 33 seconds.

Rapid City pushed back, scoring the next three goals. Max Nicastro, Sean Erickson and Winston Daychief all lit the lamp to give the Rush a 3-2 lead after 2 periods.

The third period featured plenty of scoring fireworks. Hunt chopped in a Felix Poulin broken-stick shot at 3:38 for his second goal of the game to tie the score at 3. Then Daychief directed a pass from Brett Kostolansky past DeSerres to give the Rush a 4-3 lead at 3:51. That lead lasted until the 6:12 mark when Stephen Perfetto blasted in his 15th goal of the season. At 10:57, Ryan Walters got credit for his 23rd goal when his shot deflected off Aces defenseman Marc-Andre Levesque's stick and into the net, giving Rapid City the lead back at 5-4.

Alaska had an answer for that. Tomasso Traversa, after just sitting out a two-minute goaltender interference penalty, grabbed a horrific Rush turnover and snapped home a low wrister to tie the game at 5 at the 16:15 mark.

No scoring in a wide-open overtime, despite the fact that both teams had 3 shots on goal.

In the shootout, Deluca deked Battochio to his right before sliding the puck around his left leg pad for the only goal of the skills competition, and the Aces skated away with the win.

Alaska outshot Rapid City 57-27 for the game. DeSerres had 21 saves for the win, Battochio 52 saves in the loss.

The two teams will play again Friday and Saturday nights in Anchorage at 7:15pm ADT.
