Cyclones Burned in Indy

Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

The Cincinnati Cyclones (33-23-5-4) fell to the Indy Fuel, 5-1, on Friday night. Forward Peter Quenneville tallied the lone goal for the Cyclones.

After the Fuel took a 2-0 lead after the first period on a power play marker from defenseman Ben Marshall, and an even strength tally from forward Matt White, Indy tacked on one more midway through the second from defenseman Kevin Clare, putting Indy up, 3-0.

It did not take long for the Cyclones to get on the board, as just 1:04 later, defenseman Garrett Noonan gained a step on an Indy defender and threw a shot that bounced off the goaltender, but Quenneville was following up the play and stuffed in the rebound, cutting Cincinnati's deficit to 3-1.

Indy took back the momentum later in the second, receiving goals from forwards Daniel Ciampini and Peter Schneider to take a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes.

The Cyclones turned up the physical pressure in the third, dishing out a number of big hits. The third also saw three fights, including a pair from defenseman Jonathan Diaby, and one from defenseman Cody Carlson. Cincinnati received a number of quality scoring chances as well, however could not find the back of the net, and the Fuel skated off to a 5-1 win.

The Cyclones outshot the Fuel, 48-27 on the night, with goaltenders Andy Iles and Brandon Whitney combining to stop 22 in the loss. The Cyclones wrap up their stretch of three games in three days on Saturday night in Toledo against the Walleye. Faceoff is set for 7:15pm ET.
