March 25, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release
HEAD-TO-HEAD - The Monarchs and Royals skate for the final time in the regular season, in what could be a preview of the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Monarchs began the season 4-2-0-0 against the Royals, but have dropped the last three meetings with their East Division rivals, bringing their season record to 4-5-0-0 against Reading. Maxim Kitsyn leads all Monarchs with 10 points (4g,6a) against Reading this season, while Kevin Goumas (4g, 5a) and Pelech (1g, 8a) lead the way for the Royals with nine points each against Manchester.
WHERE WE STAND - The Monarchs (83 points) hold a seven point lead over the Adirondack Thunder for the top spot in the East Division, and a guaranteed top-3 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff structure, and are 10 points clear of Reading. Manchester currently trails the Toledo Walleye by four points for tops in the conference, and is two points behind South Carolina for second place.
PLAYOFF PICTURE - The Monarchs magic number to clinch the East Division crown remains at eight points, meaning a combination of Monarchs points earned or points Adirondack does not take in games that adds up to eight, will earn the Monarchs the East. If the season ended today, the Monarchs would host the Thunder in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
HOME vs ROAD - The Monarchs enter tonight's tilt with a 19-10-1-1 record away from the Jungle, while Reading owns a 13-14-3-1 record at home. The 13 home wins for Reading are tied for the third fewest in the ECHL, and the Royals are one of five teams across the league with a losing record at home.
SPECIAL ON THE ROAD - Manchester will bring the fourth-best overall, and second-most efficient road power play into Reading tonight, converting on 22.0% of their man-advantages this season. In their last eight games, the Monarchs have converted on 33.3% (9/27) of their power-play chances, 50% (2/4) on the road.
3rd PERIOD FIRE POWER - The 3rd period could be a doozy tonight, as the Royals (76) and Monarchs (74) enter the game first and second respectively in final frame scoring across the ECHL.
KEEP IT CLOSE - The Monarchs bring a 20-4-4-5 record in one-goal games into Reading tonight, tied for the fewest regulation losses in the ECHL in one-goal games, while the Royals have suffered the second-most overall losses in close games across the league, with a 10-9-5-4 record.
LOST SCORING - Manchester will look to take advantage of the schedule, as the Royals enter tonight's game without some of their top fire-power. Justin Crandall (1st), Robbie Czarnik (2nd) and Mike Pereira (4th) are all up with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL), as well as Adam Comrie, who is second in the league amongst defencemen with 15 goals. Reading will also be missing top goaltender, Martin Ouellette, to Lehigh Valley, who's 2.07 GAA is tied for third in the ECHL.
