March 25, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI- Kalamazoo Wings centerman Curtis Valk has been recalled by the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League, the team announced Friday ahead of their contest with the Wheeling Nailers at Wings Event Center.
Valk, 22, of Medicine Hat, Alberta, who is on an American Hockey League contract, has skated in 29 games with the Wings this season, and has registered 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists). The second-year pro has logged two career games in the American Hockey League, both with Utica.
Eight of Valk's 29 games played on the season have been multi-point performances, and he is currently riding a season-high seven-game point streak. Valk tied a career mark with four points (one goal, three assists) in a win over the Brampton Beast on January 8, and his year of firsts also included his first professional hat trick on February 5 in a victory over the Toledo Walleye.
Valk was last recalled by the Comets on January 11 and was eventually returned to the Wings on January 17.
Before turning pro, the 5-foot-9 centerman played four seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL), and was able to produce at a tremendous level. In 270 career games in the WHL, Valk registered 125 goals and 130 assists. In 2012-13 Valk poured in 91 points for the Tigers, and in the following season, topped that total by producing a career-high 92 points in Medicine Hat.
The Wings play host to the Wheeling Nailers on Friday, March 25 for Lego Night at Wings Event Center. Prizes will be awarded to the most creative Lego architects, and the first intermission will be highlighted by the first ever performance by the Fur Circus at Wings Event Center.
