Vipers Select Gilder-Tilbury and Francis in the 2019 G League Draft

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the NBA G League Affiliate of the Houston Rockets, selected Kavin Gilder-Tilbury (Forward, 6'7, 210, Texas State University) with the 28th overall pick in the 2019 NBA G League Draft. The Vipers also selected Daeshon Francis (Guard, 6'4, 210, UT-Permian Basin) with the 56th overall pick.

Following the conclusion of the draft, the Vipers acquired the player rights to Kerwin Roach II (22nd overall pick) from Westchester Knicks. In exchange, Westchester acquired the player rights to Kavin Gilder-Tilbury and Tim Bond.

Francis played for two seasons at University of Texas-Permian Basin (2016-18). As a senior, Francis averaged 21.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.7 steals in 35.5 minutes of play. Francis scored a career-high of 36 points which hit a school-record of 23 free throws along with 11 rebounds against Adams State. He also scored at least 20 points in nine consecutive games from January 20 to February 22 as a senior. Francis was also named Lone Star Conference player of the year for 2017-18, South Central Regional Player of the Year and Division II First Team All-American.

In his junior year, Francis averaged 18.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.5 steals. Francis scored a season-high of 34 points against Southwestern Adventist.

Francis played in the Luxembourg Total League for BBC Arantia Larochette during the 2018-19 season. During his Euro time, Francis played in 23 games, started in 22, where he averaged 25.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.0 steals. He also averaged a 52.7 percent in field goals made.

Roach II played all four years at University of Texas whereas a senior, he averaged 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 29.2 minutes of action. He shot 43.9 percent from the field and 35.5 from the 3-point line. Roach II reached the 20-point mark seven times and reached the double-digits in scoring 46 times in his career at Texas.
