Stars Select Four Players in 2019 NBA G League Draft

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, selected guards Shawn Occeus, Kyle Castlin, Shelton Mitchell and Conner Toolson in the 2019 NBA G League Draft.

The Stars' four draft selections are listed below:

Occeus (6-4, 208, Northeastern) appeared in 79 games (61 starts) over three seasons with Northeastern, averaging 8.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals in 25.4 minutes. The Boynton Beach, Fla. native earned 2018 CAA Defensive Player of the Year and All-Defensive Team honors.

Castlin (6-4, 193, Xavier) played one season at Xavier, averaging 4.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 21.9 minutes over 35 games (24 starts). Before transferring to Xavier, the Marietta, Ga., native played three seasons for Columbia, averaging 8.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in 22.6 minutes.

Mitchell (6-3, 195, Clemson) played three seasons for the Tigers, appearing in 94 games (91 starts), averaging 11.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 31.2 minutes. Before transferring to Clemson, the Waxhaw, N.C., native played one year at Vanderbilt.

Toolson (6-4, 185, Utah Valley) saw action in 99 games (92 starts) over three seasons at Utah Valley University, averaging 12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 steals in 30.0 minutes. Before transferring to Utah Valley, the 24-year-old Highland, Utah, native played one year at Salt Lake Community College where he led the Bruins to the 2016 NJCAA national title. Toolson is the son of former Jazz and BYU player, Andy Toolson.

Salt Lake City Stars Training Camp begins Monday, Oct. 28. The team opens the 2019-20 campaign on Sunday, Nov. 10 at Sioux Falls at 2 p.m. (MT). The Stars will host their home opener on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. (MT) vs. Rio Grande Valley at Bruin Arena on the campus of Salt Lake Community College in Taylorsville.
