Varone Named to American Hockey League All-Star Roster

(Rochester, NY)... The American Hockey League announced today that Rochester Americans forward Phil Varone has been named to the Western Conference All-Star roster for the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino, which will take place Jan. 25-26 in Utica, N.Y.

Varone, who is currently on NHL recall with the Buffalo Sabres, leads the Amerks in scoring with 29 points (8+21) in 35 games this season. His 21 assists rank tied for eighth in the AHL while his 29 points rank tied for 14th. Varone is also one of just four Amerks players to have appeared in all 35 of the team's games thus far.

Now in his fourth season as a member of the Amerks, Varone has registered 177 points on 48 goals and 129 assists in 242 games for Rochester. He has also recorded six points (2+4) in 11 playoff games. A native of Vaughan, Ontario, Varone finished as Rochester's leading scorer in two of his first three seasons (2011-12, 2013-14) with the club. Last season, he set career-highs in goals (18), assists (43) and points (61) while earning team MVP honors. He also made his NHL debut last season, recording two points (1+1) in nine games with the Buffalo Sabres.

The 2015 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino will pit the top players from the AHL's Eastern Conference against the best of the Western Conference. Tickets are priced at $49, $69 and $89, and include admission to both the Skills Competition on Jan. 25 and the All-Star Game on Jan. 26. The Skills Competition and the All-Star Game will take place at the Utica Memorial Auditorium in downtown Utica; all other events during the All-Star Classic will take place at Turning Stone Resort Casino in nearby Verona, N.Y.
